This was our sixth day of the trip and we have only just begun to start heading east. If we had headed directly to Detroit from Santa Monica it would only be a 2302 mile trip...
We had the intent of starting early today but we didn't actually get on the road until a little after 11am. Originally we planned to take a break in Portland but as we were passing the city decided to just drive through onto Seattle. We knew we had limited time and would rather spend our afternoon walking around the Ports in Seattle. We arrived there around 3:30 and first drove around many of the side streets and then down to the numerous Piers. We even saw the Pier that the Real World Seattle was filmed at. We parked and decided to walk around in the Public Market Center which turned out to be a good choice. It was quite busy as we walked down the main isle filled with fresh fish markets and many many wonderfully bright flowers. We grabbed some lunch at one of the places in the Market and were able to enjoy the sites of the sailboats in the water below. Seattle was actually quite a nice city and we both enjoyed the short time we were there, not to mention we had absolutely wonderful weather..
We left Seattle about 6pm and started off on our drive east. The immediate area right outside the city is really beautiful. It is extremely lush and was a pleasure to drive through. As we got farther out it got less and less populated and definitely more brown. We decided to drive a little while during the night because the area we were driving though was full of a whole bunch of nothing.
We ended our evening in Spokane and plan to head into Idaho and Montana tomorrow and eventually end up in Yellowstone by the end of the week. Tomorrow is another big miles day so we will see how many we rack up.... maybe it will be a record for the trip.
