We got up fairly early today so that we could have plenty of time in Sequoia National Park. We grabbed a bite to eat across the street from our hotel before we left for the park. The people in that town were your typical mountain types; I will leave it at that :). But hey, they were probably thinking the same about us, typical city people :).We made our way into the park and after about an hour and a half of driving on a small mountain road we were actually among the Giant Sequoia Trees.
The trees were absolutely gigantic. Without a reference point we found that the trees appeared to be small, until we would walk up to them, or see someone pass under one at some point on the trails. We took a lot of pictures of us at the base, and sometimes within the giant trees. Its hard to verbalize how big these trees actually are so we will let the pictures speak for themselves. One cool trivia tidbit is that the largest living thing in the world is a giant sequoia tree.
After a nice two mile hike we went to find a nice quite place to have a late lunch picnic. Afterwards we headed out of the Sequoia National Park, past the High Sierras and Kings Canyon, towards Yosemite. On our way we passed through Fresno. If you haven't ever been to Fresno, your not missing anything.
We made it into a town just 15 minutes outside of the Yosemite park entrance, called Oakhurst. From the sound of it, there are a lot of people in the area all trying to get into the park before the end of summer. We decided to call it quits early today and plan to get up tomorrow at the crack of dawn and beat all of the crowds.
